Artessy is a Cape Town furniture studio for pieces with character: made, restored and chosen with care.
The past stays
in the grain.
Fallen trees, old doors, roots, stumps and driftwood are our starting points. We clean, shape, restore and finish them by hand. Knots, hollows and irregular edges remain part of the design.
Glass can reveal the movement of a root. A sleeper top can carry a history of weather and use. The material’s own form leads the work, and no two natural pieces tell exactly the same story.
A brushstroke
changes everything.
Only Mpofu’s paintings bring landscapes, animals and geometric motifs to everyday furniture. A wardrobe becomes a lion’s gaze. A console becomes a Khoisan-inspired scene. A mirror carries the colours of the savanna.
The painting is part of the object’s life, giving useful pieces a voice of their own.

Our Bali collection is made by artisans and imported by Artessy. Open reeds, woven surfaces and bamboo frames bring natural texture to lounge sets, children’s furniture, vanities and loungers.
