Sunrise Botanical Vase

A mustard sun opens its rays across the front of this tall vessel, above an arch of burgundy, ochre and green. Only Mpofu paints these simple forms with a clear sense of colour and space, allowing the pale textured ground to remain part of the composition. The scene feels warm and expressive without filling every part of the surface.

The painting continues around the original form. Green and golden leafy branches share other sides with large burgundy and mustard circles, crossed by slender pale lines. Turning the vessel reveals another arrangement of the same colours. These documented faces give the piece a story that changes with the viewpoint while remaining connected around the whole object.

Its rounded lower body narrows into a straighter neck, giving the painted marks different surfaces to follow. The visible speckled texture and hand-painted edges keep the finish full of character. Displayed empty, the vessel can hold attention through its own shape and the relationship between the sun, branches and geometric forms.

Place it directly beside a wall in a furnished entrance, living space or hospitality room, leaving its full outline clear and the centre of the room open.
